Cervical Cancer Prevention: HPV Vaccination and Pap Smear Screening

Cervical cancer remains one of the most common malignancies affecting women in Rajasthan. Fortunately, because it develops slowly from precancerous changes over several years, it is almost entirely preventable with early screening and vaccination. Over 95% of cervical cancers are linked to persistent infection with high-risk strains of Human Papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is common and often asymptomatic, making routine screening vital. • Highly effective when administered to young girls and women aged 9 to 26 before exposure to the virus. • Two or three doses depending on age at initial vaccination. • A quick, painless clinic test that collects surface cells from the cervix to detect early abnormal changes long before they turn into cancer. • Identifies high-risk viral strains even before cellular changes occur. Women experiencing unusual vaginal bleeding, postmenopausal spot bleeding, or pelvic discomfort should seek immediate clinical evaluation.
